Hi Pat,
I'm glad you wrote because this is important - what you're doing is a full-on exercise program, involving lots of high-impact actions (jumping up and leaving the floor, which Latin and Ballroom dancers do not do except for tricks). You need to wear supportive tennis shoes for aerobic workouts - look at what the folks on the TV are wearing and that's your key. Wearing real dance shoes to exercise like that could cause you serious injury. Let alone the cost!

Congrats on getting fit and thanks for reading this blog! I've moved it to www.passion4dance.org

Cheers,
Valerie

Hi,
Thanks for the information. I love to dance...have no formal training at all. But I purchased the Cardio rythms work out videos and I am loving it. I generally do the workout barefoot but thought I might get a pair of practice shoes to make it easier to do. my house is also fully carpeted so I don't have a nice hardwood floor to workout on. You didnt mention practice shoes in your article but I assume the same information applies. Unfortunately I am going to have to order online but I'm hoping they will be okay. I appreciate your article and will check back for more info. Thank you !

Thanks for your comment! I'm glad you liked the post. I teach Ballroom and Argentine Tango, and students need to know the difference because it really IS confusing!

Thanks again!

I am asked about this often, too. You are absolutely right about how motivating it is. You really start to nit-pick your routine when you know a bunch of strangers are going to see you.

Good luck on your competition!
I will go to a competition next week, and I'm already excited about it. Like you, I love ballroom competitions. I like the "preparation" phase because it gives me more focus, then I also like the acutual competition, being on the floor and trying to do my best.
